Why would anyone dis AdSense? I actually hear it often enough that it kind of blows me away. “They” say that AdSense will only make you peanuts and that making money with Google AdSense is far inferior to methods such as affiliate marketing, list building, and even running CPA offers. And while I agree that these are great monetization methods, there are a few advantages that I believe AdSense has over ALL of these other methods of generating income.
For starters, AdSense is incredibly easy to set up. There is no qualifying you need to do, shopping around for the best paying offer, etc. All you need to do is sign up with your Google account, pick your ad blocks, and copy the code. There are a few additional details, but this is essentially how it goes down.
Another great advantage of the AdSense program is that you don’t need to presell anything. This means you are free to provide nothing but quality information with no ulterior motives. You’re not trying to get these people to pull out their credit card, enter their email address, or anything else. You provide decent and relevant information, place your ad blocks in strategic locations (which you can have fixed on your site so that the ads will always show up on each page with no intervention on your part), and repeat this process until you’re sipping pina coladas in Bali.
That actually brings me to my next point. The income you can actually generate from the AdSense program is not only significant, but it comes in day in a day out on total autopilot. Once you’ve got your blog or website set up, each article you add to that site acts as an employee that goes to work for you every day. The more pages you set up, the more employees you’ve got working for you. Eventually, you don’t even have to do anything but let those hard-working articles pile huge advertising revenues into your bank account each month.
So how does it work?
It’s simple. AdSense is essentially the back office of Google’s pay-per-click advertising platform, AdWords. Advertisers pay Google to place their ads all across the internet. Obviously, Google has its own search results pages that will feature some of these ads. But they also recruit website owners like you and me to place these ads on our sites.
The actual advertiser is charged a particular amount any time his or her ad is clicked on. Google then takes this revenue and splits it with us, the website owners, as a way of saying thank you for helping to expand their reach. Pretty cool, right?
Now there are certainly things that need to be learned in order for us to maximize the effectiveness of our AdSense campaigns. Color schemes, ad block types and sizes, and ad placement all play a pivotal role in the revenues we are able to generate. It is important that we test our pages repeatedly to determine which combination of these things provides us with the highest click-through rates.
Once we’ve been able to maximize the effectiveness of our ads, it is then absolutely critical that we get as many targeted visitors to our site as possible. The most effective (and cheapest) way to achieve this is through search engine optimization, or SEO. This is where the visitors actually find us on the search results page of their favorite search engine.
