What Is Affiliate Marketing? Affiliate Marketing Explained

What is affiliate marketing? An affiliate is like a salesperson who works on commission. If the salesperson introduces a potential customer to a new product, they will get paid only if that customer purchases the product. Most major online companies use affiliates as their salesforce. This helps internet businesses build a stream of traffic and it helps the affiliate make money.

Businesses that use affiliate marketers create coded links that help track where each customer learned about the products or businesses. When those links are followed to the businesses’ web site, the affiliate makes a commission on sales. For instance, you have undoubtedly followed links from reviews about items on Amazon.com. Amazon uses thousands of marketers to bring traffic to their site – one reason for their fast success in the marketplace.

Everyday products from shampoo to shoes, baby diapers to expensive electronics are all sold through affiliate programs. You can make a little extra money as an affiliate, or even make enough to live on. Top affiliates, often called super-affiliates, may make six or even seven figure incomes from their work. Most affiliates don’t earn anywhere near that much – but there are many thousands of people who use affiliate marketing to add to their income each month.

Getting started as an affiliate marketer is simple – though succeeding at it usually takes some time. To get started as an affiliate marketer, you will need to sign up with at least one affiliate program. There are many options to choose from. Some companies use their own in-house affiliate programs. Others use intermediaries to manage the affiliate programs for them. Some big-name affiliate programs are ClickBank, Commission Junction and Linkshare.

You can locate potential programs by searching the name of a product or category you would like to promote and adding the word “affiliate.” So you could go to a search engine and type in something like “treadmills+affiliate.”

Successful marketers use many methods to bring traffic to the offers they promote. You can get started with free methods like creating review nblogs. More experienced affiliates use their own web sites and mailing lists to attract an audience.

The real key to success in affiliate marketing is to promote products you really believe in. Sincerity matters – and customers can smell phony!

Learn the Easiest Way to Make Money Online

You’ve probably already seen ‘every man and his dog’ trying to sell the easiest way to make money online idea to a community that’s crying out for a way to make a nice second income somehow, but do these ideas really work? If they all do, where are all of the super rich people who could be propping up the economy? There’s a reason you haven’t seen them…

There are a number of people getting super rich, but the majority of people online are like you and me, just after a way of making enough to get by, and for a lot of us, we’ve managed to find the way to do that.

If you haven’t yet stumbled on the easiest way to make money, which isn’t too surprising, just think about this for a moment: how many sites have you seen that offer push button results that have your email bulging with messages saying you’ve just made $100 per sale, while you sleep? That all you need to do is signup 2 people, they signup 2, who signup 2 more, and hey presto, everyone in the world is paying you to sit around watching TV?

I’m sure you’ve seen them, and I know you’re an intelligent person; so do they actually make sense when you sit down and analyze them without all of the hype? I think you already know that the answer is no, so where do you go from there?

In the early days of the internet the easiest way to make money was completely different to what it is today; and people are still teaching that method. Who do you think it is that’s still making money from that out of date system? That’s right, the people teaching it, because the people using it sure aren’t making anything from it.

What these people have hit on, however, is the fact that selling something is the way to make money. What if you don’t have anything to sell? Well that’s where the internet gives you an advantage that you’ve probably never had before – there are thousands of people who’ve created products and they’re just dying for you to sell them as an affiliate.

This is perfect. You need something to sell, and they need someone to sell it. They did all of the hard work in creating it; you come in with your obvious intelligence and sell it for them. They handle the customers; you handle your large commission. They do the distribution; you do the distribution of the money you’ve made. It couldn’t be much sweeter.

So what’s the catch, because there’s always a catch, right? The catch is this, you only make as much as 75% of the sales price, and you have to spend the money. Ok, they aren’t the real catch, unless you’re reading one of those scam sites mentioned earlier.

The real catch for most people is going to be how you actually go about getting the people to the other person’s salesletter in the first place. I’m not going to say it’s easy, because it can be difficult and there’s a whole niche built around doing that very thing, but it can be done. When we say ‘the easiest way to make money’ we’re not saying there isn’t work involved – not like some sites would have you believe.

So, what if you don’t have the skills to create a landing or squeeze page that will get the people onto a list so that you can keep reminding them of the product? That’s something you really need to do because most people won’t buy on the first visit, meaning you need a way to be able to keep in contact until they do buy, as well as to sell them related products in the future.

Tricky, isn’t it? You could spend years learning about the psychology of buyers, even more years finding out how to build websites, and any number of other things that come long in the meantime that ‘help’ the buying process, or, and remember this is about ‘the easiest way to make money’, you could have it done for you and dropped on your digital doorstep each month.

Just think, each month brings a set of new selling opportunities. If you’ve seen the idea of affiliate marketing before, but thought you weren’t skilled up enough to do it, think again. A short time from now you could have your own empire of affiliate products. Products that you haven’t had to create, but you get more money for selling them than the person who created them; who, as we’ve seen, still has all of the hard work of filling orders and talking to customers.

There’s still work to be done on your part, but it can be made a whole lot easier if you have most of the technical things done for you. Who said this wasn’t going to be the easiest way to make money?

Affiliate Marketer or Network Marketer?

In case you were not aware there is a distinct difference between a network marketer and an affiliate marketer.

You may not even be aware of the differences if you are just getting started.

A networker usually markets a company and the company sponsored products.

An affiliate does not usually market a company but rather markets various products.

Here is the key difference between the 2 types of marketers. Networker’s are able to create long-term residuals off of their customers while Affiliates commonly cannot.

Does this mean that you should not become an affiliate? I don’t believe so, because affiliate marketing is still the lowest start up cost and is still the best option (in my opinion) for those who are just getting started.

Network marketing does have its benefits, the long-term residual, the ability to build strong relationships with your people, the satisfaction you get from helping your team members build their business so that they can see profit, steady paychecks as your team builds.

These are just a few of the benefits of becoming a network marketer.

The benefits of becoming an affiliate marketer are, virtually no start up costs if you are low on capital this is a great option for you. No monthly commitments, you promote the products you want to promote rather than what the company you are with is offering. You can build your own list; you have the freedom to communicate as much or as little with your people (usually customers.) You do not have a “team” to build.

Of course there are some affiliates who decide to go into teaching but there is usually a fee involved for this service versus the network marketer who chooses to do it for free because it ultimately is to their benefit to see you succeed. After all, what we are talking about is long-term residuals and this requires those in your down line to also see success.

With all benefits there are also negatives of each. The down side of affiliate marketing is that it is difficult to build strong relationships with your team or your customer base. You are also needing to promote the next product since there is usually (not always) no residuals from the sales you make.

The down side of network marketing is there is a monthly commitment and you have to care about the people that join under you. If you care about their success you will strive to make them successful and in turn your retention will be higher and you overall will share in the success.

Products on ClickBank

Have you ever heard about making money with the products of ClickBank? Almost every beginner start affiliate marketing with ClickBank.com. But most of them don’t know how to choose ClickBank products to make money. They try hard, but they don’t able to make affiliate sales.

If you choose good products on ClickBank, then it will be an easier way to make money with affiliate programs.

Well, I’m talking about how to choose ClickBank products and make money. Here are the steps.

  • First, you need to create an affiliate account on ClickBank.com if you haven’t one. Then go to market place the browse the category. I think you have a good knowledge of niche and niche marketing. So, browse the category and see the available products in your niche. If you don’t know what a niche is, then simply consider niche as a topic.
  • Select the section ‘sort by popularity’ and take a search in your niche. Now you will get a list of popular products on your niche by descending order.
  • Now, choose some products which have higher gravity ( 30 or more). Gravity shows popularity and competition of a product. So, low gravity means that the product is not popular. And a high gravity means, the product is popular and maybe it has much competition.
  • Well, it is time to check the vendor sites and see how and what they’re promoting.
  • Use your common sense and check which sites excite you to buy their products.
  • Now, you need to choose at least 10 products that fit in above criteria.

So, now you have 10 good products on your niche. Well, we need to refine this list and choose the most profitable product to make money. Follow these steps:

  • Pick up the products from your list that give you more than 70% commissions on your sales.
  • Now you need to see the affiliate pages of every vendor. See what affiliate tools your vendors are providing.
  • Pick up the affiliate products that are providing these affiliate tools:

#Promotional ebook with your affiliate links
#Opt-in Squeeze page or premade affiliate website
#A series of follow-up emails
#Keywords for AdWords campaign with tracking tools
#A guide to use all these affiliate tools

I think there are only one or two products left. If there is more than one product left those fit with all these criteria, then choose the product which has higher gravity.

Now you have almost the best product on your niche and you can make lots of money by promoting this ClickBank product. Defiantly, promoting ClickBank products is an easier way to make money.

ClickBank and Affiliate Marketing

If you are new to internet marketing and you are unsure where to start then affiliate marketing may well be a good place for you to start.

It is a fairly straight forward process to make money as an affiliate marketer and one of the best things about affiliate marketing is that you do not need to have your own product.

What is Affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is selling a product on behalf of owner and getting paid a percentage for your efforts. Commissions can be as high as 75% of the retail value of the product you promote.

How do I find products to promote?

This is the easy part, just head over to ClickBank.com and register a free account. Once you have registered you can access the market place and there you will find thousands of digital products you can promote as an affiliate marketer. Once you make a sale, ClickBank will send you a commission check.

How do I promote ClickBank products?

This will depend on your budget and whether you have any money for advertising. It is possible to start with no money. The easiest way is to set up a blog and review products and then when somebody is looking for a specific ClickBank product review, your blog post will appear and then at the bottom of the post you can include an affiliate link. If somebody finds your review helpful and they click your link and buy the product then you will get paid your commission.

The best paid method to promote ClickBank products or any other affiliate products is to use Facebook PPC Advertising. Facebook PPC is very unique because it allows you to display your adverts to people interested in the niche of the product you are promoting. For example, if you’re promoting a bodybuilding product then you can actually target your advert so that is only displayed on the profiles of bodybuilders!

A lot of internet marketers complicate affiliate marketing but it is as simple as picking a good product (always consider buying the product before you promote it, this will ensure maximum sales and minimum refunds) and then driving traffic to your offer.

Affiliate Marketing Internet Business Programs

Affiliate marketing internet business programs are fast becoming one of the most popular ways of making money online. You don’t need your own product and most systems are in fact automated. In a perfect world everyone would be doing it with great success. Unfortunately it doesn’t work like this.

Many people today are trying to become more self-sufficient, creating additional income that allows them the time and money to do the little extras in life. The internet is fast becoming the number one choice for starting a home based business that can create extra, sometimes passive, or even full-time income. What I am going to look at now is what I consider to be the 4 keys to success when choosing affiliate marketing internet business programs.

1. The first point and to me one of the most important points is that your expectations should be realistic. If you see an affiliate opportunity claiming that you are going to make millions a months, by doing nothing! It is probably a scam. A simple rule to go by is that if it seems too good to be true it probably is. Remember nothing is free and it takes hard work and commitment to succeed online.

2. The second key when choosing an affiliate program is that you need to find a system that is easy to duplicate. This is because in order to succeed all we have to do is duplicate what successful people have done. It needs to be a system that you can easily learn. You shouldn’t need to be an internet GURU to succeed.

3. The next point that is very important is that there needs to be good training offered by the company. This training needs to be accessible, relevant and continuous. The internet is constantly changing and if you learn one thing today, tomorrow it might be outdated. So the company needs to provide the latest marketing techniques on a regular basis. Preferably weekly training.

4. Lastly you need to find an affiliate opportunity that has an accountable mentoring program. One of the biggest tools to success online is being able to have someone guide you through the learning process. This prevents you from making the most common mistakes and ensures that your time is productive.

So many people fail to make money online and one of the main reasons is that they make the wrong choices. So when you are looking at affiliate marketing internet business programs keep what I have told you in mind. If one of the key factors is missing you will likely fail.

Overstock Joins Paid Link Building Scandal

Recently, several high-profile companies have found themselves in violation of Google Search TOS by either buying or selling paid links. Forbes, in particular, was the first company to face warnings from Google over links delivered by Conductor, an SEO firm. Today, Overstock.com joins the list of Forbes and JCPenney’s of sites getting punished by Google for SEO violations.

Today’s news highlighted the continuing ripple-effect coming through several big-name sites and retailers from a link building practice seen by Google as a violation of their TOS. The Forbes PR drop and JCPenney’s punishment both were well documented and saw drops to their site’s PageRank for their participation in buying or placing these links on their site.

Today’s news, broken from the Wall Street Journal, highlights Overstock.com and their link-building tactics. It seems that Overstock was promoting company discounts through college websites and breaking through to .edu domains.

Education domains, or .edu, are seen by Google as the cream of SEO links back to to sites. By doing this practice, Overstock was able to get hundreds of .org and .edu to link back to their top-level pages. A quick search for the text of the add yielded 383 results linking back to Overstock pages. Removing a few keywords reveals 1000′s of results using the phrase “overstock.com has extended”.

The idea here is that Overstock and other companies are taking advantage of the Google algorithm in ways that were not anticipated. Google’s reaction is understandable, but rest assured they are probably already coming up with a detection technique for this and the next level of link building that they would consider in violation.
